As I put on my Batik blouse this morning for Kartini day, I realized how another calendar’s worth of blessings and of course setbacks, passed before my eyes. Kartini was no stranger to witnessing injustice. She found strength and solace in the power of words and education to make a change.
Now, I’ve always marveled at our resilience in the face of struggle and she not only dreamed of change but she strived to improve the lives of young girls despite all the aspects of her life that she had to sacrifice. But what amazed me the most about her is that she did it with limited resources compared to what we have today.
Selamat Hari Kartini, my powerful women. Here’s to climbing those steep slopes where that stunning view awaits us at the peak.
